Tile floors are beautiful, versatile, durable and pretty easy to clean. With the right care, they can look like new for years. Regardless of the type of tile floor you have in your home, there are ways to keep it shiny and sparkly clean at all times. For that purpose, we have gathered a few simple tips to make the daunting task of cleaning tile floors faster and simpler so that you have more free time to spend with your loved ones. Read on, you can thank me later.
To avoid having to spend hours on your knees scrubbing away dirt and stains, wipe up spills right after they happen. Use an absorbent cloth or a microfiber floor mop (best for greater water pick-up and trapping dirt and particles) to get rid of dirt and spills on tile floors.
During wet weather it is a good idea to use a doormat and make sure your family wipes off their shoes on it before entering home. Every family member should stick to the habit of taking off their footwear right after entering the front door to avoid tracking water and mud on the tile floors.
To keep your tile floors sparkly clean, you will need to sweep them every other day. Forget about the straw broom on tiles, it will only push the dirt around and it might scratch the floor. Instead, use a soft microfiber floor mop or a vacuum attachment specially designed for bare floors.
The majority of tile floors do not need harsh chemicals to be cleaned. A damp mop in hot water is all you need to get your floor really clean. Make sure to use a clean floor mop and to often change the water from the bucket while mopping. But there will be times that you will need to use an actual cleanser to clean built-up grime, dropped raw meat, pet accidents or other considerable bacteria spills.
When there are heavy spills and excessive dirt sitting on your tile floors, then you will need to choose a cleanser based on the type of tile floor you have. Ceramic tiles can virtually always be cleaned with just a damp mop, but for heavy dirt build-up add two tablespoons of rubbing alcohol to every 3 litters of water before mopping. To avoid saturating the grout, wipe up any excess water.
