What is trommel screen?
Trommel screen is a cylindrical unit that is used for separating solid materials with different sizes. The trommel screen is most commonly used for separating commercial and industrial waste, for production of aggregate and separation of skip waste. Also this type of screen is commonly used in the construction industry for separating sand and gravel.
How the trommel screen works?
The trommel screen is made of perforated cylindrical drum, feed and few holes. Depending on the capability (2-sort capability or 3-sort capability), the trommel screen may come with different number of holes.
The materials are separated when the drum rotates. As the drum rotates, the largest material pieces fall through the first hole, the smaller ones in the second, and so on, until the smallest particles reach the tightest hole and pass through it.
Types of trommels
Different types of trommel screens can be found on the market. Generally, the trommels are distinguished by features such as: sorting ability, drum size and conveyor system. The most commonly used trommel screens are the inclined screen cloth segment and the spiral whole drum trommel screen.
This trommel comes with a drum and screening holes that can be adjusted depending on the size that is required. Another important component of the inclined screen cloth segment trommel is the cloth. This component is in fact a wire mesh that facilitates the screening process.
The main difference between the spiral and inclined trommel screen is in the configuration. The configuration of the spiral trommel enables easier control of the separating process. Furthermore, the spiral drum can be easily replaced with another that separates materials with smaller or larger dimensions.
